A public copy of a Tesla letter says Tesla has discontinued plans to produce the Cybertruck for Australia and New Zealand. Tesla writes that it cannot fulfil the reservation and will cancel it.
Sawyer Merritt posted the copy on October 22, 2026. Tesla New Zealand signed the pages. The subject line reads “Important Update to Your Cybertruck Reservation.” The letter thanks the holder for early support of Cybertruck and Tesla’s mission, then states the change.
What the letter says will happen
“After careful consideration, plans to produce Cybertruck for Australia and New Zealand have been discontinued,” the letter says. Tesla adds that it cannot fulfil the reservation and will cancel it. The holder will receive a full refund for any payments made. Tesla apologises for the inconvenience.
The refund waits on a second message. The letter says a separate email with refund details will follow later the same day. Once the holder confirms those details, Tesla will process the refund within 30 days.
The Model 3 and Model Y offer
Tesla also offers a complimentary one-year Full Self-Driving (Supervised) subscription when the holder orders a new Model 3 or Model Y. The letter says the holder may combine that offer with Tesla’s limited-time current benefits. Tesla will apply the subscription to the new order on this email address and activate it after delivery.
The subscription sentence carries an asterisk, and the benefits line carries two. Those notes do not appear in the two pages posted with the letter. This story therefore does not state an order deadline or a subscription price.
The letter does not give a reason beyond careful consideration. It does not state a deposit amount, a delivery date, or a decision for any other country. It closes by thanking the holder and signs off as Tesla New Zealand.
Tech My Money recently covered the Tesla Model Y Long Wheelbase in the United States and Tesla FSD in China. Those are separate products and markets. This letter does not change either one.
The photo with this story is Tesla’s product image of a light Cybertruck towing a rocket engine on a highway. It does not show the letter, Australia, or New Zealand.
